Alabama Farmers Report that Their First Hemp Crop is Doing Well

The first farmers who planted their industrial hemp fields in May under a new law that allowed the commercial cultivation of the crop have reported to the state Department of Agriculture in Alabama that they haven’t experienced any problems and their crop is almost ready for harvest. Ed Glaze, who is growing hemp in St. Clair County, says the plants are doing well and some have grown to be five-feet tall. A plot of industrial hemp at a farmfest organized in Gilfillan Estate, Minnesota drew the attention of most of the farmers in attendance. Businessman Sues Nebraska for Not Giving Him a Hemp Cultivation License

Jacob Bish, a farm equipment dealer is suing the state of Nebraska for not granting him one of the ten hemp cultivation licenses that were issued to farmers who wish to participate in a test program during the 2019 farming season. 176 applicants had expressed interest in obtaining a license to participate in a hemp research program instituted after the legislature passed LB657 this spring. Gov. Mark Gordon of Wyoming has reiterated that the state government is doing everything in its power to kick-start the hemp industry.
