Bank Closes Accounts of Oregon Hemp Processor

Treasure Valley Extractions, a hemp processing company in Ontario, Oregon recently had its six accounts with U.S. Bank closed due to what the company proprietor Jim Hutchins attributes to his company’s hemp-related activities. This action was taken abruptly despite the fact that Hutchins has banked with this same bank for 40 years. Treasure Valley Extractions harvests and processes industrial hemp into CBD, which is currently on high demand across country and beyond. Last year, Hutchins and a team of local investors worked together to secure a former golf course in Ontario. They established a hemp processing plant there with a…

Hemp Industry Seems to Be Waking Up Late to the Need for Processing Facilities

From hemp field days to hemp expos and even hemp festivals, every event about industrial hemp seems to be attracting large numbers of people who are interested in growing this trending crop, but it appears that not enough forethought was allocated to what would happen once the crop is harvested and dried. Approximately 75 percent of all the hemp that is grown in the U.S. is for the extraction of CBD, but a huge number of people who get into the industry seem to be on the cultivation side of things. Colorado has had a head start on the rest…

Hemp Battle Lines Drawn Between South Dakota Legislators and Governor Noem

Gov. Kristi Noem vetoed a hemp legalization bill during the 2019 legislative session and lawmakers immediately got to work to prepare another bill for next year’s session. However, in a move that sets the governor on a collision course with legislators, Noem has vowed to veto any such bill once it gets to her desk. The push to legalize hemp this year in South Dakota was just a few votes shy of the support needed to override the governor’s veto, and an 11-member committee of legislators immediately went to work to study the hemp laws of other states, such as…

The massive turnout at the Southern Hemp Expo was therefore expected, but not even the most optimistic of the organizers could have guessed how much attention the event would attract from out of state players. In…

Hemp Businesses Undeterred by Idaho Transportation Setback

An unexpected federal court ruling declining to order Idaho to release a shipment of hemp that officers seized back in January has left the industry concerned, but businesses have vowed to continue shipping hemp to various states. That ruling came regardless of the legal opinion of the USDA to the effect that interstate commerce or transportation of hemp was legal after the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law. However, the court argued that the 2018 Farm Bill could only be fully implemented once the USDA releases the rules under which states are to establish hemp programs. Hemp advocates and…
