A recent article on Fox News by Frank Miles highlights growing confusion nationwide over illegal marijuana and legal hemp. According to the article, New York City police boasted on social media last week about the confiscation of 106 pounds of green plants that officers assumed to be marijuana, as The Associated Press reported. “Officers Greenidge and Ganshaw from the @NYPD75Pct used precision policing and relentless follow-up, along with a great working relationship with @FedEx and other local law enforcement officials, to confiscate 106 pounds of marijuana that was destined for our city streets,” the department tweeted. The November 2 Brooklyn bust landed Ronen Levy, who has run his own CBD business catering to pets, in handcuffs; however, Levy indicated the plants are hemp not marijuana and, released on his own recognizance, is due back in court on November 19. According to NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan, the plants are currently being lab tested to make a final determination.
