Hemp Cultivation Now Legal in Brazil

On Wednesday, the Brazilian pharmaceutical regulator, Anvisa, approved the roll-out of medicinal marijuana-based products. However, in a separate vote, Anvisa vetoed a proposal seeking to legalize the cultivation of domestic medical marijuana. But, one company was authorized to cultivate industrial hemp by a judge. After continued pressure from government officials and industry players to regulate the hemp industry, the United States Department of Agriculture finally released its interim final rule on hemp. South Dakotan Legislators are ready to legalize industrial hemp during the 2020 legislative session. On Monday, the six-page draft legislation, which is to be introduced in the House in January, was approved by the legislative Industrial Hemp Study Committee in a vote of 10-1. The bill’s primary sponsors are expected to be House Majority Leader Lee Qualm (R-Platte) and Senator Josh Klumb (R-Mount Vernon).
