Idaho Hemp Building Company Gets National Recognition

Matthew Mead and Tommy Gibbons are the founders of Hempitecture, a hemp company based in Ketchum, Idaho. The company specializes in hemp building projects. The pair made it into the annual Forbes Magazine list of “30 under 30,” which honors individuals who are 30 years or younger for starting a business or making notable achievements. Making it into the list gives one a sense of validation, said Gibbons. He adds that being recognized legitimized their business since many people did not understand what they were trying to create. Mead, who previously served as a planning and zoning commissioner, is now…

Hemp farmers will be glad to learn that one of the biggest issues affecting the hemp industry, lack of access to proper banking services, will soon be a thing of the past. The industry grew rapidly after the 2018 Farm Bill legalized the cultivation of industrial hemp, giving farmers the green light to grow the lucrative cash crop under state and tribal programs. However, banks avoided working with hemp producers, denying them crucial services like loans. Well, that's about to change. According to statements from federal and state bank regulators, banks will no longer be required to file reams of…

After continued pressure from government officials and industry players to regulate the hemp industry, the United States Department of Agriculture finally released its interim final rule on hemp. On top of the actual rules, States and Tribes were instructed to create their own state plans and submit them to the USDA for approval. Although the USDA issued the hemp rules in October, the agency put a pause on approving individual federal applications to give time to State and Tribal governments to draw up their plans.
